Schizophrenia From Cats 2

Wednesday, September 1, 2010
posted by Bill J 7:11 AM

Someone with a toxoplasma infection is twice as likely to develop schizophrenia, according to Dr. Robert Yolken, of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

When initially infected, most people have little more than flu type symptoms, or none at all. Young children, however, can develop a brain inflammation, or suffer heart damage, or other health complications. Pregnant women can suffer a miscarriage or their babies possible health ailments.

Felines may become infected when they eat an infected mouse or bird. The microbe would then reproduce within the cats gut. They can release in the cat’s feces.

More studies will follow in the future, but it has been noted by several sources that adults with toxoplasmosis have an increased risk of various health disorders.

An article that was in press recently spoke about the dangers of consuming red meats. A study, that was led by Dr. Amanda Cross of the National Cancer Institute, revealed that the chemicals that make hot dogs pink and preserve cold cuts, can raise our risk of receiving cancer.

We will continue this tomorrow, so stop on back. For now, if you want to find an awesome cure for assisting with weight loss, try the Primal Lean Weight Loss challenge. It is remarkable!

The junk food is made to be ready to eat, inexpensive, accessible, and packaged attractively. Here are the final five from our friends at the Nutrition Action Health Letter:

  • Tomatoes- whether from a sauce, juice, soup, or slices/ whole, they are a great source for fighting off cancer. They are readily accessible in a wide variety of forms.
  • Sardines- a top fish choice, with high omega 3 fatty acids for a healthy heart, plus other health benefits. They are low in mercury, so you can eat them 3 to 4 times per week.
  • Onions- like the Egyptians, some health experts feel these may extend your life. Choose red ones first, then yellow, then white. The quercetin in them helps prevent oxidation of the bad cholesterol. Garlic is very beneficial for ones health also.
  • Quinoa- is a seed, not a grain, that is high in protein, with good amounts of fiber. Also the vitamin benefits are good.
  • Yogurt- is an excellent source of protein and calcium, plus a ” good ” bacteria that helps digestion and boosting ones immune system. You might even loose weight and body fat too!

What a week! Time surely does fly by quickly, so following wise, prudent advice is paramount to reducing stress, enjoying life, and having a higher quality of life. Here are several more from Dr. Oz’s list of Health Tips:

  • Don’t Be An Island. Remember Paul Simon’s song, I Am A Rock? That person he sang about surely was guarded, isolated, plus unhappy. Women seem to live longer than men for many reasons, but surely due to forming more friendships, sharing their problems, and enjoying others company. Seek some close friendships, then enjoy each other.
  • Avoid Fad Diets. The real secret is to develop a healthy lifestyle with proper eating, exercise, and rest. If you lower your daily intake, seek to eat as healthy as you can, and get some workouts, you should experience healthy weight lost. Fad diets are hard to stick with and many times, those folks gain the weight back eventually. Choose healthy living.
  • Visit Your Doctor. Get to your doctor annually, at least, to get checked out. They can be a vault of information. Also they will alert you to any problems you may have, from their tests, then guide you to a specialist if needed.
  • Go For A flat Belly. Okay, most people do not have a flat belly, especially as they age. Seek to trim yourself down to where you should be. Talk with your doctor or go online for more information. Per Dr. Oz, your belly should measure half or less than your height. If you are 6 feet tall, then your belly should be no more than 36.5 inches. Find out where your BMI, body mass index, should be, then set a goal to reach that. Get a friend or coworker to compete against!

Are You Snoring?

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Do you know if you snore? During my early years, I didn’t snore, according to my family members. As I have gotten older, I snore on occasion, according to my kids. It must be loud at times for them to hear it.

As we age, the muscles in the roof of our mouth, plus the tissue in your throat, relax. Snoring happens when those muscles relax enough so as to vibrate as you inhale and exhale. With those muscles becoming more lax, snoring becomes more possible.

Weight gain and  alcohol consumption, can increase ones chances of snoring. Try not to drink too close to bedtime. Get some nasal strips. Keep your nose clear. Consider a sleep specialist should your problem persist.

Whole Grains For Health Final

Thursday, June 17, 2010
posted by Bill J 8:30 AM

In 2002 the Whole Grains Council was formed to help better inform consumers. athey devised a whole grain stamp the size of a postage stamp, that is on food packages to help the potential buyer know how many grams of whole grain are in a serving of that particular product. The minimum amount that a product can contain to earn a stamp is 8 grams, which is a half serving of whole grains.

Having more whole grains in food doesn’t necessarily mean there is more fiber. Fiber is important in our diet because it can help to remove the undigested matter from our bodies.

Try to choose good quality whole grain foods; ones with lower sugars, sodium, and saturated or trans fats. Seek to eat a balanced array of foods. Once you set a basic program for yourself, maybe with the assistance of a Food Pyramid, then stick to it. Every one of us enjoys eating, so find the foods you enjoy with a majority of them accomplishing your needs and goals. Make sure that healthy products with whole grains are in the mix!

Healthy weight loss can happen with proper eating, exercise, and effort. Gaiam Exercise Balls are one way to get some much needed exercise workouts. Take a moment to see our great, low priced selection.

Stress Can Add Fat

Each of us must learn to deal with the stress in our lives. When some are under increased stress, they might overeat and head towards being fat. What can we do?

Well, for starters, manage what food you take in. Don’t have too much of the high calorie stuff you like accessible. Instead have fresh fruit, vege’s, and healthy snacks and foods handy.

Since it is only natural in stress filled moments to eat too much of the wrong things, choose your course of action sensibly. We keep mini carrots, Dole Salad Mix, fresh fruits, and other healthy snacks readily available for us. If we kept too much of the candy, ice cream, cakes, cookies, and other junk foods on hand, we would go through it quickly. Moderation plus healthy eating, along with regular exercise, are the keys. Drink more water too.

For exercising, get one of our good quality, inexpensive, exercise mats. They cushion you from the hard floor and make doing floor exercises more fun and effective.

Snack Attack

Monday, April 26, 2010
posted by Bill J 8:00 AM

Years back, snacking was not as commonplace as it is today. We snack more often now plus we consume more calories. Research shows that we consume roughly twice as many calories as we did back in the 1970’s. What can we do about this?

Each of us must be careful to watch what we eat. If it is an issue, write down everything that you eat each day, plus the calories, if you can. When you write down what you eat, you will be more cautious in what you take in. Snacks on the run many times are unhealthy. Seek to replace those with healthy alternatives, like vege pieces, yogurt, pretzels, or dried fruit, in moderation.

Watch out what beverages you consume. If they are sugary, then the empty calories are present. Alcohol consumption adds numerous calories also.

Keep active getting some exercise each day. Surely taking a brief thirty minute walk can be included within your day, or some form of exercise. You will most likely feel better, sleep better, plus have healthy weight loss.

For some exercise at home, try our Valeo exercise ball. Do some situps, pushups, or a myriad of other exercises on your Valeo ball.
