Last week we reviewed the older version of the Food Pyramid. Today we will take a look at the governments New Food Pyramid developed around 2005.
To stay healthy it is important to consume the right amounts of healthy foods, drink enough water daily, and get some exercise. We all need a proper balance in life which also includes food and exercise. The newer version of the pyramid has six colored sections running somewhat vertically. These sections are Grains, Vegetables, Fruits, Oils, Milk, and Meat & Beans. The larger the section, the more you should consume daily.
For example, if you are a 35 year old female, 5′6″ and 115lbs., you are recommended to consume 1800 calories somewhere within their set categories of foods. If you are a 35 year old male, 5′11″ and 175 lbs., you are recommended to consume 2600 calories. The key is to blend the right amounts of healthy foods along with some exercise. Basically you will lose weight when the calories you eat & drink are less than the calories you burn. The professionals at Nutri System can help with a suitable weight loss program.
Try to incorporate healthy fun foods into your daily intake. Snacks such as trail mix, popcorn, or a power bar may do the trick. For more information and to view the New Food Pyramid , go to www.mypyramid.gov. Enter in your stats to help you work up a rough plan based on their guidelines.
