We live in a fast paced, busy society today, so at times many of us feel the need for a snack somewhere in our day. When we do, it is helpful to plan ahead, so as not to eat a lot of empty calories and too much all at once. Natural weight loss comes from a healthy life style. Consider having a healthier alternative such as:
1- Dried fruits like apricots, cherries, blueberries, bananas, apples, prunes, pineapple, or any you like. Try a blend of various fruits designed to your liking. Thes can be prepackaged or put in a baggie for quick access, plus they last normally longer than fresh fruit and also are very good for you.
2- Vege’s like carrot sticks, celery, green or red peppers, and so on, will be good to snack on. Use a dip of some sort if you need to. Cocktail tomatoes are great too!
3- Trail Mix can be blended in numerous ways and easy to take along. Prepackaged varieties come in many forms and are a great health snack that can boost your energy while helping any hunger pangs.
4- Nuts are a great snack and protein source. Consider trying some less used nuts like soy or go with almonds or walnuts for a switch. If you buy prepackaged nuts, try to buy unsalted where possible.
5- Snack Bars can be a healthy alternative. Many power/ energy bars can give you that added help in your day. Keep some onhand for emergencies plus as you are out and about. Just watch the calories, sugar, and fat contents.
6- Cereal in a baggy that is low sugar & healthy can be wonderful for a fast snack. You can also add in some raisins or other fruit or nuts to zest it up.
7- Popcorn or pretzels are also terrific to snack on. My kids love animal crackers. Cheese and crackers in moderation or fresh fruit like apples, bananas, grapes, sliced watermelon, etc., work too.
Whatever you decide, just seek to be prepared to have healthy snacks available for you and your family regularly. On occasion, we all will get something out of a vending machine or at a store, but what we do as a pattern will be what our habits become. Make them as healthy as you can and the rewards will follow!
