Today let’s look at a few more things to do, or not to do, in helping us get the sllep we want. One thing is for sure; each of us needs sleep to live. Each of us is wired differently, so there is no one answer to help the masses. There are things each of us can learn that will help us to have a healthy, sound, successful nights sleep. Here are a few more pointers.
- Be careful to not overdo alcohol or wrong eating, like high sugar foods, prior to calling it a night. Alcohol can help you doze off, but the sllep may be interupted and of a poorer quality.
- Reduce or stop caffeine as the day goes on. Any caffeine at night may keep you awake longer struggling to get to sleep.
- Try a wave machine or sound soother to relax you and help you sleep. It will also drown out unwanted household noises that a larger family produces. Try a relaxing CD with nature sounds.
- Keep a pad and pen bedside in case you need to write someting down. Keep your mind free.
- Always go to the bathroom just prior to going to bed; you’ll have times that you are thankful plus the goal is to not get up in the night. This helps your chances. Don’t drink much liquid after dinnertime!
- If your clock is too bright, block it or get one that dims when the lights are out.
- Avoid any food(s) your body is sensitive to. Indigestion makes it harder to sleep. Try to get enough exercise plus have a weight loss program to stay as healthy as possible. Many times when you are active and feel better, your sleep is better too.
- Never have your bedroom too hot. Oddly a cooler room could help you doze off and sleep a bit better. Have an extra smaller blanket ready next to you to pull over yourself in the night, if needed.
These are just some of the techniques that you may find will help. Let me know of other methods you have used that work for you. Have a great nights sleep!!
