The seven children are described as follows: Monday’s child is fair of face; Tuesday’s child is full of grace; Wednesday’s child is nice to know; Thursday’s child has far to go; Friday’s child is loving and giving; Saturday’s child works hard for its living; and a child that’s born on a bright Sunday, is fair and wise and good always.

Many things can help our health  physically, mentally, and emotionally. Take some time to find those things that help you look and feel better. Our Creator has given each of us a choice to make in life, whether we will get to know Him or not. God gives us free choice; we can make our own decisions in life, but their are consequences in not doing things His way. There are many religions, but only one way to be God’s person. Read the Bible, gospel of John, praying for your understanding to be opened up. Also the book of Romans, in the Bible, is helpful in getting to know God. He cares for each one of us, and provides the way of eternity with Him in heaven. Many desire to do things their way, but that will not work. Weight lifting is not something that many people want to do, unless you count lifting their weight out of bed in the morning! Just try to remember that weight lifting doesn’t have to be heavy duty. dagwood-sandwichThe old saying, you are what you eat, seemed a bit weird when I was a child. How could I become a cheeseburger just because I ate one? Today that saying makes sense, because we do tend to feel better plus look better as we watch what we eat.

To be somewhat fit, we need to be careful in what we eat or drink. Moderation plus sensible healthy eating can go a long way in helping us in our healthy diet. Most of us may eat a whopper,double cheeseburger or something on occasion that is not one of the best healthy food choices, but that should be alright if we tend to eat a heart healthy diet regularly. When we mess up big time, it is important to not beat ourselves up, but to just get back on track. Don’t give up on healthy eating, just work up some healthy eating plans then experiment with some healthy recipes, healthy snacks, and health fitness strategies. Plan the work then work the plan.

leaper1On numerous occasions we might feel a bit overwhelmed plus seem to wear our emotions on our coat-sleeves, so to speak. We shouldn’t let circumstances control how we live in the moment, but many times they appear to win out.

From a message paraphrased from a recent copy of  The Daily Motivator, we need to take note of a few things when a bad day or a rough time hits us. Remember that what upsets you is not what happens, but how you respond to what happens is. Keep a positive perspective, not a negative outlook or attitude. Everybody goes through some challanges, so think in a positive light for your own health and wellness. What we choose to do and how we respond to any difficulty, can go either way. You are in control of how you will react, so choose to be positive.

There is a great blessing in remaining calm; it affects you plus those around you. When you keep it all in perspective, that will help the moment be in a positive light. Respond by having those disappointments be okay, then move forward in control. The biggest problems are often caused by what you choose to do about the small things. Focus on solutions while remaining calm, not blowing the situation out of proportion. Have faith that all will be okay in the long run as you keep a cool head in the short run.

cartoonWith all of the rough news over the past few years, we all need an avenue to help us relieve the stress somewhat within our daily lives. Much of the news we hear can put us into a negative frame of mind, just as many of the television shows or movies can do. What can help us get in a positive thinking mode on a regular basis?

When I think of my Dad, who’s been in glory for twenty-five years, my thoughts go to his use of cartoons throughout his high stress business executive life. When I was looking through some of his old stacks of papers where we worked, he had hilarious cartoons mixed into those piles! Talk about a heavy load to bear in running a good sized business for decades; he kept a sense of humor on his coat sleeves to help lessen the daily turmoil. I even remember how he would tune into a comedy special here and there, throughout my school years. Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Lucille Ball, George and Gracie, Jackie Gleason, or Red Skelton. Frankly, that terrific group of stars will never be matched! Not to cut down today’s comedians, especially great ones like the Seinfeld crew, Alan Alda, or the great late night genuises. It was just an era gone by that was good, clean, funny humor; a great prescription for your emotional health. Today’s cinema is more about the special effects, and less about the actors.

Take time to read a few comics in your paper, or on-line, every day. Laugh out loud! Peanuts, Beetle Baily, Dilbert, the Family Circus, Garfield, Hi and Lois, Blondie, Mother Goose and Grimm, or Hagar are always worth a moment  to read. Like my Dad did, I’ll clip out the very funny ones to see at a later date. The Far Side was a classic: you can still get the calendars. Read some funnies each day or at least take some time to laugh and smile.

Crab Cake Season

crab-cakes1If you enjoy eating seafood, then you hopefully have tried a really good crab cake. Many people enjoy eating fresh fish regularly, or shrimp, scallops, clams, oysters, or even mussels. Much of the seafood is available throughout the world and is enjoyed by many people, but when it comes to obtaining a decent crab cake, it may not be as easy.

In Maryland, home of the Chesapeake Bay, a great crab cake is available from many establishments. If a crab cake is to really be great, it must have fresh jumbo lump in it. Yes that costs more, but if you want a great crab cake on occasion, then pay the price. There are three types of crab meat from a crab; jumbo lump, backfin, and the shreds. You should could have all three in a great cake, but you definitely need the jumbo lump and backfin for the best ones. When you look at your crab cake or open it up, if no crab lumps are visible, then that is at best a mediocre crab cake. Some places may even substitute fish shreds for crab meat. Typically people eat them fried or broiled, but broiled is makes for  better healthy meals. Old Bay seasoning, a local favorite, is often added for taste.

Once while on vacation in New Jersey, a restaurant touted about their Maryland Crab Cake on their menu. I just had to try it. Much to my dismay, there in Cape May, it turned out to be a very poor crab cake; kind of like the short lived McDonalds crab cake. Noone really should be tortured in eating a bad crab cake. They must be done correctly, or not at all. Our locals also enjoy steamed crabs. The abundance of great seafood here is plentiful enough to avoid the poorer versions. If you are ever in the Baltimore County area maybe visit a restaurant that makes excellent crab cakes, like Michael’s, Pappas, Bluestone, The Reef Grille, Tark’s Grill, or Fresh Fresh Seafood. Plus there are many more fabulous restaurants to choose from in Maryland.

The only real peace can come from God, because the worlds peace is short-lived and fleeting. The Bible has many verses that can guide plus comfort each one of us. Choose today to be like a child and go to Him!
