George Washington exhibited considerable manners throughout his life. His diligence started at an early age, because he wrote down around 110 ” Rules Of Civility And Decent Behaviour In Company And Conversation” at the age of 14. Here are some more.

  • Show not yourself glad at the misfortune of another, even if your enemy.
  • If anyone comes up to speak with you while you are sitting, stand up, even if they are inferior.
  • Let your discourse with men of business be short and comprehensive.
  • Strive not with your superiors in argument, but always submit your judgement to others, with modesty.
  • Do not express joy before one sick or in pain, for that may aggravate his misery.
  • When a man does all he can, though it does not succeed, do not blame him.
  • If you want to advise or reprehend a person, consider whether it ought to be done in public or private, presently or at some other time, in what terms to do it, and in reproving show no signs of anger, but use sweetness and mildness.

These are wise rules for living that we should each incorporate into our lives. Come back for more tomorrow, early morning.
