Healthy Pleasures 2

Get some healthy pleasures into your everyday life that help you enjoy your days even more. Surely there are some things you have thought of to help you accomplish that goal, if only you would take some time for yourself.

Many people find their happy place when they consume some chocolate. Chocolate provides a wonderful momentary escape! My children and I love smores! Grab a chocolate bar, some graham crackers, and some large marshmallow.  Break your graham cracker in half, put on a wedge of chocolate on one half of the graham, add the marshmallow on top, then the other half of the graham cracker on top of that. Put it on a paper plate or napkin into your microwave for 20 or so seconds on high, then enjoy! Using your grill is also a fun idea as time allows.

Having a girls, or guys night out also can be a terrific way to unwind. Friendships are good for you. Maybe do a date night with your spouse! One thing we enjoy is a desert and coffee out somewhere, or a fun dinner on occasion. Another great habit to ease stress is to take a walk, even with another, or a small group. That additionally provides one some exercise and a chance to chat with another.

Speaking of exercise and fitness, a medicine ball can offer you that terrific workout. We offer medicine balls like TKO medicine balls, and Valeo medicine balls. Medicine ball workouts are what help many athelets stay in top condition.

Once in a while we need to laugh. Maybe even laugh out loud! Looking at the lighter side of life helps us to release some of the stress we may be acquiring. Read these and have a laugh.

  • Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were out on a camping trip deep in the English countryside. They had retired for the evening and were lying there looking up at the sky. Holmes said, ” Watson, look up and tell me what you see.” Watson said,” I see thousands of stars, plus many wonderful constellations, even shooting stars going by. The weather seems like it will remain good, even for tomorrow. We should have a fine day.” Holmes, ” what do you see?” Holmes shouted, ” Watson you fool, someone stole our tent!”
  • There was a story about twin brothers from deep in the woods who wanted to join the Air Force. The recruiting officer asked the first twin if he had any skills. He responded that he did: he was a pilot. The recruiter was excited about that. He asked the next twin what he could do, whereby he responded that he could chop wood. The recruiter said that they had no need of a wood chopper. The twin replied that he had to chop wood before his brother could ‘ pile it.’
  • Knock Knock.   Who’s there?   Little Old Lady.    Little Old Lady Who?     I didn’t know you could yodel!!
  • Henny Youngman said that he flew his own plane for two years………………………….But, then the rubber band broke!

Well, hopefully you enjoyed these few jokes. Keep on laughing every day!

Now is the time to get yourself a wonderful TKO Medicine Ball for your workouts. TKO Medicine Balls are durable, inexpensive, and lots of fun.

Red Meat Concerns, con’d.

We were talking yesterday about the dangers of eating red meats. Nitrates and nitrites are compounds added to many meats to help preserve them. During the cooking process it was discovered that those nitrites and nitrates combine with other chemicals that are present in the meats to form potentially cancer causing compounds.

These results, among others, were arrived at by Dr. Amanda Cross and her colleagues, from a study that was started back in 1995. It followed over 300,000 older men and women from across the United States in a seven year study. Around 854 participants were diagnosed with bladder cancer.

That team found that the top fifth of participants, in terms of processed red meat consumption, had about a thirty percent greater risk of being diagnosed with bladder cancer than those in the bottom fifth.

These facts really should make us be more careful in what we consume, so as to gravitate towards healthy eating. Regular exercise and fitness is vital to our health also, so try our TKO Medicine Balls for  really great workouts.

Lower Your Risk Of Breast Cancer 2

One thing to follow up from yesterday is to mention that walking, for thirty minutes or more daily, is the best exercise, per many studies. Jogging, dancing, swimming, and numerous other forms of exercise and fitness surely are beneficial too. The key ingredient is to get that exercise each day if you can.

Stay clear of alcohol, or keep your consumption low, to help lower your risk of breast cancer, among other health setbacks. Alcohol can also add in those extra calories, plus make you eat more with it.

While taking vitamin D can help strengthen your bones, there is no real evidence that taking it will help lower your risk of breast cancer.

The average age at which women have been diagnosed with breast cancer is age 62, while the highest rates are for women aged 70 plus. Even though my Mother still states that antiperspirants can cause cancer, there is no conclusive evidence as of yet.  Family history of breast cancer surely plays a part in the risk of getting breast cancer, but taking these preventative medicine steps can still lower your risk.

For more information on this subject, use a search engine like Google. Since exercising can help, now is a great time to do what many athletes do and use medicine balls, like the Valeo Medicine Balls.

Beach Me

What a great time of year to head to the beach. There is nothing like being at the ocean, enjoying the healing properties of its salt water with the waves that just continue on and on. Look at the horizon to see the ocean continue! It surely is breathtaking!

When my stress has built up to high proportions, the beach is the place for me. Since some areas of the beach are too crowded, my goal usually is to find some spot that is a little more isolated. Take in a boat excursion, do some fishing, try hang gliding, get a kite then fly it, play putt putt golf, take a nice stroll along the waters edge, watch the sunset or sunrise, or just relax and sit on the beach.

My favorite is to also play frisbee or get some exercise on the beach, like body surfing the waves. Watch your stress melt away as you get a mini break there. Now is the time to get to the beach, especially if you have kids. If money is tight, pack your own food, then have picnics. Take some digital photos for memories!

Take along a medicine ball for playing catch on the beach. You don’t see that much, but you could be a trendsetter! Medicine balls are really loads of fun, plus they provide you great workouts.

Are Cell Phones Safe

Many of us use cell phones on a regular basis. It is really a blessing, and a curse, to be able to handle calls while out and about. For us older folks, we could really only catch up on calls at our desk or at home, years back. Cell phones may cost us, but they save us in the long run.

Over the years I had heard that cell phones are not fully safe; that they can be harmful. Tomorrow I will tell you some of the information that we found on this issue. As my Mother used to say, ” forewarned is forearmed.” Come on back to our site to find out what we have discovered.

In the meantime, get exercising with TKO Medicine Balls. They are great for your at home workouts.

Valuable Health Advice

One thing that we each need to focus on are what are some of the healthy habits that will be beneficial for yourself. Dr. Oz listed numerous  health tips that we should live by. Each day this week, we will share some with you. Here are the first few:

  • Laugh every day: laugh out loud. Laughing can ease stress, change your mood, and even improve your health. To be serious all of the time makes life a bit boring anyway.
  • Eat Breakfast Daily. Having a good, healthy breakfast starts your day off on the right foot. Fiber consumed in the morning may help curb your appetite in the afternoon. Your metabolism may remain more active throughout the day, so you may lose some excess weight. Just eat a healthy breakfast!
  • Get to Bed early enough to obtain at least seven hours of sleep. You will feel better, live longer, be sharper, plus you should have less cravings for wrong foods, per Dr. Oz.

Getting regular exercise must be on his list too, so get those needed workouts each day. Incorporate medicine balls  into some of your exercise regiments. We offer a great selection through our website. Take a quick look right now!

Plastic Bottle Dangers

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

As if life isn’t full of enough situations and problems that affect you or me already. Word has been out that many of the plastic bottles that are used are not safe. Now that numerous people are drinking bottled water or using plastic containers or even thermouses, that could cause quite a scare!

Most types of plastic bottles are safe and able to be reused safely, if they are washed out with hot soapy water. Some studies have shown that some plastic bottles contain trace amounts of BPA, Bisphenol A, a synthetic chemical that can cause us problems. BPA has been linked to breast and uterine cancer, an increased risk of miscarriage, and decreased testosterone levels.

Being a person who loves to refill my water bottles a few times may now be a thing of the past. Some health advocates strongly urge us not to reuse our water bottles that might be made from plastic #1, which is PETE ( polyethylene terephthalate). Most water, juices, or soda use the plastic #1 in their bottles. More than a one time use could leach outother harmful carcinogens, like DEHP.

Stop back tomorrow as we continue this write-up. Remember that forewarned is forearmed! In the meantime, get yourself one of our medicine balls, like the TKO Medicine Balls we recommend. Check it out now!
